Obere Ohre / Landwehr von Rade is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Wittingen in the Gifhorn district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG BR 151 is approximately 44.57  hectares . With the exception of an area between the Ohre and the state border with Saxony-Anhalt east of Ohrdorf, it is part of the FFH area “Ohreaue”. To the south it borders on the nature reserve " Mean Ohreaue " east of the past in the field of Saxony-Anhalt nature reserve " Ohreaue ". With these and the adjacent nature reserve “ Ohreaue bei Altendorf und Brome ” to the south of the nature reserve “Mittlere Ohreaue ”, it forms a biotope network . The area has been under nature protection since February 1, 2017. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Gifhorn.

The nature reserve is located southeast of Wittingen on the border with Saxony-Anhalt. It extends for around 7.5 km along the Ohre from the Landwehr von Rade, which was probably built towards the end of the 13th century, to the nature reserve “Mittlere Ohreaue” a little below the confluence of the rafts in the Ohre near Hanum and includes a predominantly narrow strip of shore a. Above the road between Ohrdorf and Haselhorst , areas with oak forests are included in the nature reserve. The dominant tree species is the pedunculate oak , which is joined by sand birch , mountain ash , quivering poplar , Scots pine and, to a small extent, also beech . The forest areas have a high proportion of old and dead wood . Partly falter in the nature reserve and forestry used softwood forste . Below the road you can find trees and shrubs that accompany the stream as well as riparian perennials . Otherwise, arable land often extends right up to the stream. By including a 20-meter-wide edge strip in the nature reserve, the banks of the Ohre are to be upgraded in the long term.

The Ohre presents itself as a brook developed over large sections, which, however, has unobstructed banks and a diverse discharge profile with a pronounced width and depth variance with largely natural dynamics of the discharge process. In the ear, which has here a good water quality, flooding is growing aquatic vegetation . The area is home to otters and beavers .
