France took part in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada, with a delegation of 68 athletes in nine disciplines, including 53 men and 15 women. With a gold medal and a bronze medal, France placed eleventh in the medal table. Both medals were won by the alpine skier Franck Piccard , who became Olympic champion in the Super-G and was third in the downhill.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the downhill skier Catherine Quittet .
