The first short track decision of these games ended with a double victory for the South Koreans. In the A-final the high favorite and world record holder Ahn Hyun-soo prevailed against his compatriot Lee Ho-suk and the Chinese Li Jiajun . Apolo Anton Ohno , defending champion of Salt Lake City 2002 and one of the favorites for a medal, made a driving error in the semi-final run without any influence from the opponent and thus missed the A final.
