Paul Simon Unterberger
Paul Simon Unterberger ( Russian Павел Фёдорович Унтербергер Pavel Fedorovich Unterberger ; born August 9, jul. / 21st August 1842 greg. In Simbirsk ; † 12. February 1921 in Remplin ) was a Russian lieutenant general , Ataman of the Cossacks , Governor in Eastern Siberia and the State Council in the Russian Empire .
Life
1851-1860 he attended grammar school in Dorpat , and in 1860 entered the Nikolayev engineering school in Saint Petersburg . With the promotion to lieutenant , he completed his first officer training. In 1868 he began further studies at the Nikolaev Engineering Academy. He finished his studies with the rank of captain and went on a study tour in several European countries.
His first war mission took him to Turkestan from 1870 to 1871 , with the rank of captain . After that, he did not resume his scientific work and went to Eastern Siberia . From 1875 to 1877 he was a lieutenant colonel in Irkutsk and had been entrusted with special tasks in the district construction department of the East Siberian military district . In this context, he carried out a research project and studied the military geographic area of Eastern Siberia. During the uprising in Mongolia , he was sent to Urga to build defensive lines. As a specialist in the field of military geography, he carried out research trips through Mongolia and the Gobi Desert . He also visited Beijing , Tianjin , Shanghai , Hong Kong and Japan .
After 1877 he became chairman of the Military Prison Commission in Irkutsk, and in 1878 he was promoted to colonel while at the same time managing the technical department of the East Siberian Military District. In this function he was essentially involved in the planning for the Vladivostok fortress . In 1879 he completed the planning work for the fortress construction in Vladivostok and began the construction project.
In Vladivostok
On October 1, 1888, Unterberger was appointed military governor of the Primorye region and appointed ataman of the Ussurian Cossack army . On August 30, 1889, the flag was raised on the Vladivostok fortress and in August 1890 the seat of the military governor and the administration of the Primorsky Krai was transferred to Vladivostok. At the same time, Vladivostok was declared the headquarters of the Ussurian Cossack Army, making Vladivostok the capital of Eastern Siberia. In 1896 Paul Friedrich Unterberger was promoted to lieutenant general. Under his aegis , which lasted for almost 9 years, the region flourished, the port of Vladivostok was expanded, floating docks and shipyards were built, residential and office buildings were built, medical facilities, schools and other educational institutions were established, and ship tourism was promoted. In and around the Primorye region, but mainly in Vladivostok, there was an industrial revival. The industrial mining of coal began, especially in Suchana , which led to the establishment of several mining settlements.
In Nizhny Novgorod
In 1897 Unterberger was appointed governor in Nizhny Novgorod appointed, the City Council of Vladivostok appointed him for his services, the Honorary Citizen of Vladivostok. In Nizhny Novgorod, too, he pushed ahead with construction work, promoted the expansion of the port and expanded anchorages. He supported the construction of the museum and was a member of 29 charities. His governorship ended in early November 1905, a few days earlier he had been appointed senator in the ruling senate of the Russian Empire .
In Priamursky
The place Priamurski was founded in 1888 by resettlers, Cossacks from Transbaikalia, as Pokrovka. On November 8, 1905, Lieutenant General Unterberger was appointed commander of the troops of the Amur military district and ataman of the Amur Cossack army . With effect from November 18, 1905, he became Governor General of Priamurski and began to promote the region in terms of culture and economy. Under his responsibility, new educational and medical facilities were established, rural businesses were modernized, ore mining began, fisheries control was established and new settlements were built. At the age of 68, he went to the war front in the Far East as General of the Pioneers in 1910 , then went to Saint Petersburg and was appointed to the Russian State Council on December 6, 1910.

Origin and family
The Unterberger family was a Protestant family from Salzburg , which settled in Prussia in 1732 . It was established in Riga at the end of the 18th century . His father was the veterinarian and real state councilor Heinrich Friedrich Simon Unterberger , (Russian: Фри́дрих Семёнович У́нтербе́ргер, * December 17, 1810 in Riga ; † May 27, 1884 in Dorpat), who was married to Maria, a born Rudolph. His father was, with his brother Alexander Unterberger (1827–1875), the founder of veterinary medicine in Russia. His brother was the military doctor Simon Unterberger (1848–1922). Paul Simon spent his early childhood in Simbirsk and moved to Dorpat with his father when he was 7 years old. After the October Revolution in 1917 Unterberger left Russia and moved in with his wife Luise Ivanowa Erdmann (* 1854 in Dorpat, † 1936 in Riga - 1936), who lived in Riga. Ultimately, Paul Simon became the administrator of Remplin Castle and died here on February 12, 1921, at the age of 78. Paul Friedrich had three daughters Maria Henriette, Helene Johanna and Ernestine, and two sons: Peter Friedrich (* 1881 in Irkutsk; † 1960) Colonel of the Russian Army and Georg Unterberger (* 1885 in Khabarovsk ; † 1915 Paldiski , Estonia ), lieutenant Lake .
