Massive (rapper)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Massiv (born November 9, 1982 in Pirmasens ; civilوَسِيمٌ طَهَ Wasim Taha , DMG Wasiem Taha ), formerly Pitbull , is a German rapper of Palestinian descent. Hegrew upin Pirmasens ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) and has lived in Berlin since 2005, where he also started his rap career and received his first artist contract with Basstards label Horrorkore Entertainment . He later moved to Sony BMG . After the separation, his albums appeared on his own independent label Al Massiva in collaboration with various distributors. He also plays in the well-known series 4 Blocks as Latif .

Life

Wasiem's parents are originally from Palestine and lived as Palestinian refugees in Lebanon before moving to Germany . He was born on November 9, 1982 in Pirmasens , a town near the French border, and has a sister one year older than him. Massiv was interested in hip-hop from a young age and was drawn to the Berlin hip-hop scene. The Hauptschule finished massively without a degree. According to his own statements, after completing secondary school, Massiv began five different vocational training courses (including as a process mechanic, tiler, stove builder and forklift driver), which he repeatedly broke off and never finished. When he was in his early 20s, he decided to become a rapper and therefore moved to Berlin-Wedding in 2005 to start his career there. In Berlin he had no foothold and no point of contact. However, he was able to persuade his parents to move to Berlin with him.

Massiv is married. He also has a daughter, whom he raps about in his song Malika .

Musical career

Early years

After various demos that he had sent to various labels, he found his way to the independent label Horrorkore Entertainment , which is directed by MC Basstard . MC Basstard signed Massiv and released the horror core mixtape part 1 with him . In July 2006 Massiv's debut album Blut gegen Blut followed , for which the rapper worked with well-known Berliners such as MC Bogy , Sido , Bass Sultan Hengzt , B-Tight and King Orgasmus One . Massiv raps on raw, simple beats. His texts mostly consist of the concatenation of partial sentences. The content of the texts mostly describes his or his imagined violent fantasies and life in poor marginalized environments. On August 22, 2006, however , Massiv Horrorkore Entertainment amicably left again. Reasons for the separation were not given. Massiv then signed an artist contract with Sony BMG . According to media reports, the label is said to have invested € 250,000 in Massiv's career. In an interview, the Frankfurt rapper Azad stated that he was also interested in signing Massiv with his label Bozz Music .

Massiv has made various appearances in videos of the Aggro Berlin label , such as in Aggro Berlin Zeit by Tony D , B-Tight and G-Hot , Der Chef von Fler or in Straßenjunge by Sido, on whose second album Ich he also made a guest contribution is. On January 23, 2007 he appeared for the title You made us so in the 90-minute TRL XXL Sido Special with Sido. Bass Sultan Hengzt, Fler, Alpa Gun , DJ Werd, Peter Fox and B-Tight were also present on the special.

In 2007, Massiv accompanied Sido at the shut-up entry! -Tour. On this 25-city tour, the rapper was in seven cities. In addition to the best-known songs by Blut gegen Blut , he presented his new single Wenn der Mond kracht in mein Ghetto for the first time . Massiv also reported on the tour that he had founded his own label Al Massiva , which has a lion's head as its company logo.

First successes and increasing media coverage

The April 16, 2007 issue of Spiegel published a five-page report on gangster rap in general and Massiv in particular. Among other things, it spoke of the circumstances of his Sony contract. On May 6, 2007, a report on Massiv was broadcast on the RTL program Spiegel TV . Massiv, his mother and various Sony employees who work in marketing had their say.

On July 13, 2007 Massiv's solo album Blood Against Blood was re-released . Seven guest contributions from the original album version were then replaced by new verses and additional titles were added. Blut gegen Blut re-release rose to number 55 on the German album charts. Three days before the album was released, Massiv was a guest on the MTV show Urban TRL , which he co -hosted . The video for Massiv's first single made it to number 1 on the TRL Most Wanted charts in this and other editions of the MTV program . The single when the moon crashes into my ghetto brought Berlin number 44 in the German single charts.

From October 25th to November 14th, 2007 Massiv was on the one-man-one-word tour. This should prepare for the release of the second solo album, which was released by Sony in February 2008. On the twelve-city tour, the rapper was accompanied by hip-hop musicians DJ Desue and Beirut. On February 2, 2008, the second studio album Ein Mann, ein Wort was released . The premium edition of the album was already sold out on the Amazon.de website in the third week of January . The track Do you know how it is? decoupled. After it had previously reached number 1 on the TRL Most Wanted of the MTV show Total Request Live several times, the video was banned from the day on January 29, 2008 due to various audience complaints and has only been allowed to be broadcast at night since then. One man, one word was sold 6,500 times in the first week of sales and was able to reach number 18 on the media control charts. In Switzerland, after the first week of sales, it was placed 25th and in Austria 66th place in the respective charts.

At the end of 2008 Massiv completed a tour through Palestine together with other international rappers on behalf of the German Goethe Institute and some cultural institutions from Denmark , France and Great Britain . This was dubbed the European-Palestinian Hip Hop Concert Tour and took the hip-hop musicians through Jenin , Nablus , Ramallah and Bethlehem . The intention of the performances was that the young people there should get to know a non-violent way of life. Massiv performed his pieces in German, but they were made available to viewers in Arabic translation . While the rapper saw his assignment to perform in the region as " a privilege, an honor, something very special, as a Palestinian to travel there and perform ", the selection of Massiv was made by Markus Löning , the European political spokesman for the FDP - Bundestag parliamentary group, criticized: “ It is an absolute mystery to me how the Goethe-Institut came up with the idea of supporting appearances by such a rapper in this violence-torn region with state money. "

Separation from Sony BMG

On September 10, 2009, Massiv announced the separation from its Sony BMG label. Al Massiva has "developed enormously" over the past few years and has independently filled various fields of responsibility as part of the publications of Ein Mann, ein Wort and Meine Zeit . A few days later, the Berlin independent label Fight 4 Music announced that Massiv's albums would be released on this platform in the future. Managing director MinOr El-Fares stated that Massiv was a “very talented artist” with “still a lot of potential”. Massiv's manager drew a negative résumé of the time at Sony BMG, who stated that the contract with Sony BMG had "brought nothing" for the rapper. The major label did not provide the necessary marketing or television appearances. The first release via Fight 4 Music was Massiv's album Der Ghettotraum handcrafted on November 6th, 2009. The first video was the title Eiszeit , on which Basstard can also be heard. Further guest contributions on Massiv's new album were contributed by Sido and Kollegah . On November 16, 2009, Massiv announced that there were major distribution problems with the release of his album. It is said not to have been available everywhere and in some cases only four days later. A short time later, Massiv ended the collaboration with the sales force Fight4Music.

As part of the 2009 Bundestag election , the website 16bars.de organized a meeting between Massiv and Cem Özdemir , the federal chairman of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party . They conducted an interview and drove through Berlin together. 16bars.de put the meeting on the Internet in five parts during the week of the federal election. In addition, Massiv, along with Markus Kavka and Joe Rilla , was involved in the “Don't-Go-Vote” campaign, which calls for the use of voting rights in the federal election.

On January 28, 2011 Massiv released the solo album Blood Against Blood II . This is the successor to the first part, which was published in 2006. Guest musicians include Bass Sultan Hengzt , Farid Bang , Haftbefehl , Beirut, Silla , MC Basstard, King Orgasmus One , Saad , Nazar and Automatikk . Videos appeared for Roll das R / Ghettolied 2011 / Blow the run of my AK , Massaka-Kokain (with an arrest warrant), The stars that pop into the ghetto (with Silla) and 100,000 children dream . In addition, Massiv appeared as part of the web series Stop the face , where he presented the song Wedding 65 together with Beirut . In the fall, the album A ball is not enough followed , on which Kollegah and Farid Bang appear as guests.

Autobiography and textual defusing

Massiv published together with the author Mariam Noori on October 12, 2012 his autobiography with the title Massiv: As long as my heart beats . Shortly after its publication, the book made it into the Top 10 of the Spiegel bestseller charts and ranked 10th (KW44 / 2012). In addition, the eponymous album appeared parallel to the biography As long as my heart beats . A year later he concluded the trilogy for his debut album with Blood Against Blood 3 . The brutal album comes up with Celo & Abdi , Haftbefehl , Schwesta Ewa , Nazar , Eko Fresh and Summer Cem as guest rappers. On his next album M10 he tried his hand at Trap for the first time .

At the beginning of 2015, Massiv announced a break in his musical stylistic devices. So he came to the decision “ that what I have done so far does not musically correspond to what my life reflects today, that's why I came to the decision to make a blatant cut through my life in order to be at peace with myself be. "There is nothing more important for him than " looking in the mirror with clean thoughts, without having to reproach yourself as to whether everything is okay, what you give the kids on the way ". His music should primarily connect, motivate and touch people. He wanted to continue to do hard street rap, but from now on without insults and swear words.

As a result of this reorientation, A Man a Word 2 appeared on May 29, 2015 . The album, produced entirely by Abaz , completely dispenses with guest rappers. With Condemned / I did not want to go to Syria , Martyrs , Kisses the floor on which Mama walks , A man a word 2 and Freedom , five singles accompanied the publication. From 2016, JS Kuster became Massiv's regular producer. Predator appeared in the summer via Al Massiva and entered the album charts at number 8. Again the publication was advertised with several singles. So Tyson & Ali appeared , The street never loved me , My jungle , love-hate relationship and All you can eat .

Acting and founding quality music

Massive (2018)

In the spring of 2017, Massiv appeared as an actor for the first time in 4 blocks . With Latif Hamady he took on one of the leading roles in the German drama series . In an interview with Ajouré he explained that he previously requests from " larger and smaller projects had received", but only the part in 4 blocks " like chalk and cheese " would have fit. He also pointed out the differences between film and music: “ In acting, you deliver something, then go home and only know months later whether what you were doing was good or bad. When rapping you deliver, you can still hear it on the same day and then see directly what you might want to change. "

With Turbo , Massiv presented the first single for BGB X , the fourth album in the blood against blood series, in April . The album was released on August 11, 2017 via Al Massiva and reached number 8 in the German charts. Flashbackk , Sirene and Manhattan also appeared as singles . Shortly before the start of the second season 4 blocks Massiv released his thirteenth album M10 II , on which the rappers Capital Bra , Kool Savas , Farid Bang and Olexesh appear as guests. While the single Hubba Bubba started at number 43, the album reached position 16. At the end of 2018, Massiv announced an EP with the " Sound for your anti-depression parties ". He used the song Milieu by M10 II as a starting point, the sound of which he retained in all the contributions to the EP Because I Bocked , released in mid-January .

In February 2019, Massiv announced the establishment of the Qualität'er Music label . After 15 years he decided to “go a new way ”. In addition to the rapper, producer JS Kuster and manager Asfand Saeed run the platform. They were the first artist to introduce the Offenbach Ramo. After his debut single Tell me how there were music videos for the songs Silberzahn and Not registered . At the end of May, Marlo, the second rapper, received an artist contract with Qualität'er Music . Carlo Colucci was the first song to be released on the label's Youtube channel. This was followed by two pieces with Ramo, Der Moment and Nie mehr . In October, Massiv founded Purple Juice Records , another label that focuses on trap music with autotune. IAN104 was the first artist to receive a contract with the company.

reception

Controversy

Due to his switch to the major label Sony and his high media presence, he is repeatedly attacked by the underground rappers. In several "diss tracks" (insulting songs) massive accusations are made of "selling out". The rapper Abusex, who records music today under the pseudonym King Zaza, published the title Truth about Massiv and accused him of "betraying" MC Basstard , the founder of Massiv, as part of the new release of the blood against blood album on the Sony label former label "Horrorkore Entertainment". In a juice interview, Massiv described his departure from horror core as a smooth and clean change. There is no "bad blood" and he has left the rights to his previous publications to Horrorkore Entertainment .

In the meantime there was beef between Massiv and Manuellsen and the Ruhrpott duo Snaga & Pillath , which Massiv attacked in 2006 in his track Opinion . Manuellsen and Snaga replied with massive hangs . In the Juice interview, Massiv also declared this dispute over: “They do their thing, I do my thing and that's it.” Manuellsen also appeared on Massiv's album Raubtier as a feature guest of Massiv.

In addition to these usual quarrels in German hip-hop, Massiv polarizes because of his appearance as a Palestinian . However , the rapper rejects Islamist tendencies. The previously unsuccessful underground rapper Bözemann attacks Massiv and describes him in a video as a " Jew ". This prejudice-laden “attack” attains a new quality in German hip-hop, as it only deals with Massif's origins and is also anti-Semitic . Meanwhile, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Baden-Württemberg is dealing with the controversial rapper of Albanian origin .

In a (now deleted) Facebook post, Massiv posted a picture of “Islamic Facts” in which the conspiracy theory was spread that 4,000 Israelis had stayed away from the World Trade Center on the day of the attacks and wrote “Funny isn't it?” On another Facebook -Post about a year later he shared a drawing in which a connection between the iS , Israel and the United States is suggested.

Johannes Gernert and Daniel Haas reported in 2008 on Spiegel Online that the LKA had indications that Massiv had sought protection and allies from a criminal Arab clan, called "extended family" by the LKA. In January 2007 one of Massiv's protectors was shot at. There is "probably" a connection to a clan in which Bushido is also rooted.

In August 2009, the re-release of the blood against blood album was indicated .

In January 2011, the video shoot for the video single Massaka-Kokain together with the rapper Haftbefehl in Offenbach caused a large- scale police operation. The shooting had to be interrupted and the police recorded the personal details of those present.

Attacks

On June 8, 2007, Massiv was attacked by two young people while performing in Duisburg and fell from the stage into the audience. The attackers then fled the hall and were followed and beaten by Massiv's friends and later by the rapper himself. In a statement after the concert, Massiv said that the attacker hit him with a brass knuckle, which he said suffered a neck injury. A police spokesman later stated that 30 police vehicles had to be deployed to stop the rioting. The cultural center, which served as the venue, was damaged, resulting in damage of 5,000 euros. A complaint was initiated for breach of the peace , dangerous bodily harm (at least through collective action) and participation in a brawl. The exact reasons for the incidents are not known. Some media suspected that a statement by Massiv, in which he spoke disparagingly about the mothers of people from the Ruhr area, was the reason for the attacks. This was indirectly confirmed in the rapper's apology. On April 22nd, 2009, Massiv was sentenced to eight months probation and a fine of 1500 euros by the Duisburg District Court for assaulting the two young people for dangerous bodily harm.

Following an argument during a concert on November 2, 2007 in Biel (Switzerland), several tires on the tour bus were slit and windows were smashed. Among other things stones and bottles were thrown. As a consequence, all available forces of the local police had to intervene.

On January 14, 2008, according to Massiv, a stranger attacked him on the street in Berlin's Neukölln district . The perpetrator stepped up to the rapper, masked. At least three shots were fired. According to his own statements, the rapper suffered a bullet in the shoulder; the investigators, however, only speak of a "grazing shot on the upper arm". In an initial video statement after the attack, Massiv reiterated his statement that he had suffered a bullet and claimed that this could be confirmed by the hospital staff. The incident took place shortly after 10 p.m. after an interview with Aggroradio in the studio of the Aggro Berlin label . The state of health was stable again the following day. However, on the night of January 17th, Massiv had to be admitted to a clinic again. The reason for this were convulsions and fever as well as the consequences of the severe blood loss. It was the first time that an assassination attempt with a gun was carried out in the rap scene in Germany. The police do not rule out that the attack could have been a production that was intended to advertise an announced CD. Massiv denies the accusation and describes statements in this direction as "cynical, inhuman and perverse". Immediately after the incident, the rapper Joe Rilla recorded the song Gangsta Paradies , in which he shows solidarity with Massiv.

Awards

In 2007, Massiv was able to achieve first place in the category of best artist in the reader charts on the Laut.de website . Furthermore, his single When the moon kicks in my ghetto was chosen as the best song and blood against blood as the best album. The editors of Laut.de, who view the artist rather critically, justified the unexpected victory with calls for support on the rapper's official fan page. In 2008, the rapper achieved first place in seven categories in the year-end poll on rap.de. Massiv was nominated in 2011 for Bravo Otto in the “Super Rapper” category.
