Hofstetten-Grünau

Hofstetten-Grünau is located around 15 km southwest of St. Pölten in the Pielach Valley in the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. The lowest altitude in the municipality is 309 m above sea level. The highest point is the Plambachecker Höhe at 623 m. The area of the market town covers 35.93 square kilometers. 29.17 percent of the area is forested.

The community consists of the cadastral communities Aigelsbach, Grünau, Grünsbach, Hofstetten, Kammerhof, Mainburg, Plambach and Plambacheck.

history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

Hofstetten was first mentioned in a document as "decimationem vinearum ad Hovestetin" around 1083.

In August 1850, today's political community was established, which was given the name of the parish "Grünau". On April 15, 1996 the name of the community was changed to Hofstetten-Grünau.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census , there were 2,569 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 2,449 inhabitants, in 1981 2,084 and in 1971 2,054 inhabitants.

Arthur Rasch has been the mayor of the market town since December 9, 2014. He succeeded Josef Hösl, who resigned his post as mayor after almost 27 years.

In the market town council there after the local elections on 26 January 2020 at a total of 21 seats following distribution of seats: ÖVP 15, SPÖ 4, Freedom Party 2, other no seats.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2001 there were 100 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry businesses according to the 1999 survey 146. The number of people in work at the place of residence was 1243 according to the 2001 census. In 2001 the activity rate was 49.51 percent.

Trivia

In the summer of 2015, a particularly rare incident put the community of Hofstetten-Grünau and the swimming lake there in a supraregional light. A pike attacked a boy in a community bathing pond. In July 2018, the community was sentenced to pay 14,000 euros in compensation. The local mayor then took very conspicuous measures to draw attention to the local fauna .
