Pointe-Noire ( Guadeloupe Creole : Pwentnwa ) is a municipality with 6107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in Guadeloupe in the Caribbean .

geography

Pointe-Noire belongs to the overseas department and the overseas region of Guadeloupe and is located on the Caribbean Sea , on the west coast of the island of Basse-Terre . This coast is called Côte sous le vent there . A main road , built in 1967 , which also opens up the Guadeloupe National Park, runs along the coast . In the hinterland, a mountain range dominates with extinct volcanoes .

economy

Pointe-Noire is known for its native woodworking . In agriculture , cocoa and coffee are grown. Today also plays tourism an important role.
