Ponte (Italian for bridge ) is the V. Rione (district) of Rome . It covers the left bank of the Tiber in the former Marsfeld opposite the Castel Sant'Angelo .

history

The name Ponte refers to the Angel's Bridge , the most important connection for pilgrims to St. Peter's Basilica . Originally the district was part of the Rione Borgo .
