The Route 1 , R1 or Batinah Costal Highway is a highway in the Sultanate of Oman . It is the country's most important east-west axis. This leads from the capital Muscat on the coast of the Gulf of Oman via the large cities as-Sib , as-Suwaiq and Sohar to the border with the United Arab Emirates .
Course in the Muscat region
Route 1 is a major transportation axis in the Muscat Capital Area . At Wadi al Kabir R / A you are directly at the Sultan's Palace Qasr al-ʿAlam . A road leads south to Al-Bustan . Shortly after the palace is the Muscat Gate Museum , from here the road is a highway. The popular Ryiam Park is also located here . After 2 kilometers you drive along the Muttrah Corniche , one of the greatest beauties in Oman, here is the Muttrah Souk . Via the Fish R / A and the Al Mina R / A you come to a motorway junction; This is where Oman's largest LuLu hypermarket is located . Route 1 now forks. In one direction, the R1 leads over the Ruwi business district , from here route 17 branches off towards Sur . The other direction is a shortcut. Both roads meet again after five kilometers in Qurum ; this is where Qurum Park and Marah Land , a fairground ride park , are located . The Muscat Expressway begins shortly before that . After the R1 comes together again, it is also called Sultan Qaboos Road . The British School Muscat and the Indian School Muscat are further along the R1. The Muscat Grand Mall is at the node towards Bowshar . Shortly thereafter, the Ghala knot follows , from here you can get to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and the Sultan Qaboos Sports Center . This is also an important link to the Ghala industrial district . Then comes the airport node ; From here a road leads to Muscat Airport . Route 1 goes around the airport and Muscat City Center is opposite. At the Burj as Sahwah R / A commencing Route 15 in the direction of Nizwa . The entrance to the Sultan Qaboos University also branches off from here . Three kilometers after the roundabout, several exits branch off into the city of Sib .
Course in the Janub al-Batina region
Route 1 now leads through the Janub al-Batina region . The Al Rumays node connects the end of the Muscat Expressway and the city of ar-Rumays. After 15 kilometers branches on Barka node , the route 13 in the direction Nachl and Awabi as the road to off Barka . After 35 kilometers, which is Muladdah R / A . Route 11 begins here in the direction of Rustaq and into the center of al-Muladda. During the 35 kilometers you can ski to al-Masna Masa, Abu Abali, Billa, Murajyat and the tourist village of Ras-al-Sawadi . After seven kilometers you can drive from Tharmad R / A to Al Mudayq and the Wadum-as-Sahil military base. After ten kilometers the Suwaiq R / A is on the R1. This connects the city of as-Suwaiq , which has 28,000 inhabitants, with the national road network, because as-Suwaiq is a further eight kilometers further north on the coast.
Course in the Shamal al-Batina region
37 km after the Suwaiq R / A is the Al-Khābūrah R / A . Route 9 begins here , leading over the Hajar Mountains to the city of Ibri and the city of al-Chabura . During the 37 kilometers through the Batina Plain , you can ski to the villages of Tawi Bedi Guish and Khalil. After a further 30 kilometers, which is Zaham R / A . Saham is best known for its large number of foreign schools. Another road branches off here and connects remote mountain villages in the Hajar Mountains. Between Saham and al-Chabura are the villages of Dail and al-Qasabyat. 25 kilometers after the city of Saham is the fourth largest city in Oman, Suhar . About two kilometers from the center are the Royal Sohar Gardens , magnificent gardens with parks. In the center is the Sohar R / A and knot , this is where Route 8 begins , which connects the inner-Roman cities with one another. The main road to Sohar is two lanes. This is where the Sohar Hospital and the Royal Oman Police Station for the Batina region are located. The Sohar Mall is four kilometers after the node . During the 25 kilometers between Saham and Sohar are the Suhar University and small settlements. After another 17 kilometers, the Falaj al Qabail R / A is on the R1; route 7 begins here ; this leads in the direction of Buraimi . The Sohar Airport is located just one kilometer from the roundabout and three kilometers from Sohar itself away. After another ten kilometers is the Suhar port node . From here a road leads to the port of Sohar; the small town of Liwa can also be reached from here . Shinas R / A is 50 kilometers after the port of Sohar . From this roundabout, a road leads to the remote wadis in Inner Oman. The other exit leads to the center of Schinas . A striking structure here is the Shinas Tower . After a further eight kilometers, the Al-Aqar R / A is on Route 1. This is where Route 5 begins , which runs via Hatta in the United Arab Emirates, back to Oman and then again into the Emirates. The Al-Aqar roundabout also connects Al-Aqar with the road network, and Shinas Technology University is also located here . The Wadi Hatta cuts the land between Shinas and Al Aqar. After seven kilometers branches at Al-Bubaqarah R / A , the Route 3 Arab Emirates from the border to the neighboring country United. After 16 kilometers is the Omani border post to the neighboring country. Before that there is only the border town of Chatmat . The road in the Emirate of Fujairah has no marking. The nearest cities are Kalba and Fujairah .
