German Chess League 1979/80

The 1979/80 season was the sixth and final season of the four-track chess Bundesliga . It also served as a qualification for the single-track Federal Chess League 1980/81 .

Eight teams each played a simple round-robin tournament in the North, West, Southwest and South seasons . The four season winners qualified for the finals held centrally on a long weekend, the first four of each season qualified for the single-track Bundesliga chess league 1980/81 , the last four of each season relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga.

The North relay comprised the regional associations of Berlin, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Weser-Ems, the West relay included the North Rhine-Westphalia regional association, and the Southwest relay consisted of the Baden, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland regional associations during the relay South associations of the state associations Bavaria and Württemberg-Hohenzollern belonged. The number of team points decided on the placement, in the event of a tie, play-off fights were played for group victory and relegation, otherwise the number of board points decided. In the final round there were generally no playoffs played, but in the event of a tie based on team points, the number of board points decided.

Preliminary round

North

With SV Wilmersdorf and Kieler SG, two clubs with Bundesliga experience were promoted to the North Season . While the Berliners reached the qualification for the single-track Bundesliga in fourth place, Kiel had to relegate immediately, as did the SC Concordia from 1907 , the Hannoversche SK and the Hamburger SG .

Favorite Hammonia and Hamburger SK were tied at the top and had to fight a playoff for the final qualification, which Favorite Hammonia won. In addition to these two teams, the Delmenhorster Schachklub and SV Wilmersdorf were also able to qualify for the single-track Bundesliga.

SG Enger / Spenge and PSV / BSV Wuppertal rose in the West season . Both teams had to be relegated again, as did Düsseldorf SG Rochade and SK Münster 32

For the only time in the four-track Bundesliga, the reigning German champions missed the final round qualification; the SG Porz had to settle for third place behind the Solingen SG 1868 and SG Bochum 31 content, but it was like the two placed teams in front of them and the sport friends Katernberg qualified for the single-track Bundesliga.

southwest

Sk Zähringen and PSV Neustadt were promoted to the Southwest season . While Freiburg was able to hold onto third in the Bundesliga, Neustadt was relegated straight away, together with SK Frankenthal , SC Kettig and the Karlsruhe Chess Friends . Last year's winner Königsspringer Frankfurt won all competitions and qualified for the finals; TSV Schott Mainz , SK Zähringen 1921 and SV 1920 Hofheim also qualified for the single-track Bundesliga .

Grundig Nürnberg and SC Bad Cannstatt were promoted to the south season . Both newcomers had to relegate immediately, as did SV Fortuna Regensburg and SV Wolfbusch . The SF Marktheidenfeld could the season by a single point on the SC 1868 Bamberg win also still qualified Bayern Munich and TB Erlangen for the single-track Bundesliga.

Finals

The final round took place in Solingen from October 3rd to 5th . Despite a defeat against the runner-up Favorite Hammonia, the Solingen SG won in 1868, the Königsspringer Frankfurt was third ahead of the SF Marktheidenfeld.
