The Schmiedebruch is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Leese in the joint municipality of Mittelweser in the district of Nienburg / Weser .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 016 is 35 hectares in size. It borders directly on the nature reserve of the same name in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is located in the north of the Wasserstraße district belonging to the city of Petershagen , and forms a contiguous reserve with it. The area has been under nature protection since August 3, 1995. It replaces the nature reserve of the same name designated on May 7, 1961. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Nienburg / Weser.
The “Schmiedebruch” nature reserve is located south of Leese. It places a former arm of the Weser under protection, which is characterized by wet grassland , reed beds , sedge beds and alder and willow forests. At the edge of the slope of the lower terrace , there is a poor grassland .
By placing it under protection, the richly structured landscape is to be preserved and developed as a habitat for animals and plants in need of protection, which is also to be achieved by further watering the area, in particular by closing drainage ditches .
Partial areas within the nature reserve are used for agriculture. In the southeast the nature reserve borders on the federal highway 482 , in the northwest on the route of the Weser-Aller-Bahn . To the north there are agricultural areas .
