The 1989/90 season was the 56th season of Serie A1 , the highest Italian ice hockey division . Champion was for the eleventh time in the history of the club of HC Bozen . The HC Merano descended to the second division.

mode

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 36 games. The four best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. The remaining six teams had to compete in a relegation round to avoid relegation. For this, the teams received half of their main round points as bonus points. The last placed in the relegation round rose directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
