Situation map

Silba (Italian: Selve ) is one of 18 inhabited islands in the Zadar archipelago. It is located between the islands of Premuda , Olib , Ilovik and Lošinj in Croatia .

The island has been inhabited since Roman times. In the heyday of the 17th and 18th centuries, up to 1200 people lived on the island. As the northernmost Dalmatian island, it is also called the gateway to Dalmatia . With a size of around 15 km², Silba is one of the smaller of the inhabited islands in the archipelago. The island has the shape of an elongated strip that is only about 700 m wide in the middle. Despite its small size, the island has very rich vegetation and very beautiful small bays. There are both pebble and fine sandy beaches on the island (on the west coast Pokukmarak, Luka sv. Ante, Mavrovo, Lojišće, Pernastica, on the east side Sotorišće, Draga, etc.)

tourism

On the island there is a settlement of the same name with restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, a post office and an exchange office as well as a travel agency and an ambulance. There are no roads for cars or motorbikes on Silba.

The closest major city on the mainland is Zadar, about 50 km away. There are daily ferries and boat trips to Zadar and 2-3 times a week you can get from the island to the neighboring islands as well as to Rijeka and Pula.

Beaches and harbors on Silba

Zalic is the main port on Silba Island. It is located on the southwest side of the island, very close to the center of the island. However, Zalic is not suitable for bathing. The port serves primarily as a landing stage for large ships and ferries; private yachts cannot moor here.

Pocukmarak is the largest beach on the south side of the island and is also very close to the center of the island. This beach is located at the southernmost end of Silbas Lungomare. It is a gravel bay with a crystal blue sea. At Pocukmarak, bathers can get drinks and snacks in the nearby café. About 100 meters uphill is the oldest church on Silba, the Church of St. Marko.

Porat Sv. Marka is a small bay on the southern side of the island. While not particularly good for swimming, it does offer a nice view of San Marko Church. In addition, private yachts can moor here.

The Dobre Vode is a very small but also very attractive bay on Silba. It is about 3 km from the center and you have to take a 45-minute walk through the forest to get there. It is an ideal place for people who like to be among themselves and want to escape larger floods of tourists.

Nozdre is also a bay that is rarely visited. It consists of two separate parts: one part is made entirely of fine sand and the other part is a mixed pebble / sand beach. Nozdre is far from the center of the island, but only a 10-minute walk from Dobre Vode. There are neither cafes nor bars in both bays, so you have to rely on self-sufficiency.
