Samograd is a small Croatian island in the Adriatic in the Kornati group .

geography

The uninhabited island is about 28 km west of Šibenik and about 74 km northwest of Split . It is located east of the island of Kurba Vela and west of Žirje . The closest island is Vrtlić in the northwest. The area of ​​Samograd is 44,894 m², the highest elevation 33 meters.

Samograd is part of the Kornati National Park .

Flora and fauna

Samograd has a few endemic species including Campanula pyramidalis , Euphorbia fragifera , Corydalis acaulis, and Iris illyrica .

In 1956, M. Radovanović described a subspecies of the ruin lizard that occurred on Samograd and the neighboring island of Vrtlić. It bears the name Podarcis sicula samogradi .

The island is visited by divers because of a reef .
