Zlarin (Ital: Slarino) is an island in the Šibenik archipelago and is located off the mainland coast in Croatia .
Location and inhabitants
Zlarin is located near Šibenik . The highest hill is the Klepac with a height of 174 m. In 2011, 284 people lived on the island. The island is heavily forested.
history
The island was first mentioned in a document in 1386. However, it has been settled for much longer, as finds from Roman times show. Coral diving appeared in the 15th century. After the end of the 20th century, many residents had to emigrate. In the spring of 1943 there was an Italian concentration camp ( campo di concentramento Zlarino ) on the island. In the village of Zlarin there is also a coral museum, which shows the art of processing the corals.
