Location of the municipality of Brackel in the Harburg district | ||
Brackel [ bʁaːkɛl ] is a municipality in the district of Harburg, in Lower Saxony ( Germany ). It is located between Hanstedt and Hittfeld with its own exit from the federal motorway 7 in the Thieshope district .
Brackel is part of hanstedt and adjacent landscape to the south of the conservation area Garlstorfer Forest and further afield .
history
Brackel was first mentioned in writing on February 6, 1300 in the record book of the St. Michaelis monastery in Lüneburg. Traces of settlement in the area can be found in finds from prehistoric times, from the younger Stone Age through the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. They show that the main settlement areas were not where they are today, but rather in the direction of Quarrendorf and Toppenstedt. An urn find from the Jastorf culture says that people were buried in Brackel as early as 550 to 400 BC.
On July 1, 1972, the community Thieshope was incorporated.
Origin of the place name
Old names of the place are: 1307 in villa Brackell, 1312 in villa Brakele, 1450 Brakell. The basic word is old Saxon loh, lah "Busch, Niederwald". The final word is Old Saxon “brak, braka”, Middle Low German “brake-broken wood, branch”.
politics

coat of arms
Blazon : "A silver flax brake on a red background."
The flax brake shown refers to the time when flax was still “grown and processed for linen production”. It was used to " break flax " and was a cutting device. The coat of arms is the Brake, as it is assumed that the name "Brackel" comes from the fact that there used to be a large Brake in Brackel, to which the surrounding farmers came. However, this is not certain.
traffic
Brackel is in the area of the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund . The bus lines 4407 and 4408 of the KVG Stade connect the place with the train stations Buchholz (Nordheide) (on the Hamburg – Bremen railway ) and Winsen (Luhe) (on the Hamburg – Hanover railway ), which are just 15 km away .
Brackel used to have its own stop on the Lüneburg – Buchholz railway line, which was closed in 1981 and dismantled in 2000 .
