Allegory of the Ventôse

The name is derived from the French vent (wind). The Ventôse is the third month of the winter quarter ( mois d'hiver ). It starts around February 20th and ends around March 21st .

Day names

Like all months of the French Revolutionary Calendar, the Ventôse had 30 days, which were divided into 3 decades. The days were named after agricultural crops, with the exception of the 5th and 10th day of each decade. The 5th day (Quintidi) was named after a pet, the 10th day (Decadi) after an agricultural implement.

Conversion example

The 26th Ventôse XIII is to be determined .

The year XIII is in the third table, including the Gregorian year 1805 . The 17th is under the 26th (top line of the day). Since this is after the transition between the months (28th → 1st), March is meant.

So the Gregorian date is March 17, 1805 .
