Sauerland network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sauerland network is a group of lines for local rail passenger transport in the Sauerland , which are put out to tender and awarded by the responsible public transport authority . These include the regional express trains and regional railways :

In December 2004, the DB Regio NRW took over the operation of the RB 52 from the Dortmund-Märkische Eisenbahn . The RB 53, RB 54 and RE 57 were already operated by the DB Regio NRW.

The DB Regio NRW took over the operation of the RB 43 in December 2015 from the NordWestBahn .

With the award of operation from December 2016, the RE 17 line will also be part of the Sauerland network.

In contrast, the railways in the Sauerland formed a much more extensive network.

Tenders

On October 9, 2012 has Zweckverband transport Westphalia-Lippe in the EU Official Journal the tender for the operation of regional rail transport published in the Sauerland Net to traffic in December 2016th A new operator is being sought for the regional express lines RE 17 and 57 as well as the regional trains RB 43, 52, 53 and 54. Some of the required improvements are to be handicapped accessible trains, more space for bicycles, more train attendants, machines in the trains instead of on the platforms as well as improved connections in Menden (to Dortmund) and in Schwerte (to Münster). It is about 5.6 million train kilometers per year, so 9 to 10 euros per train kilometer is an order volume of around 50 to 55 million euros per year. Because the network will be awarded for 12 years, it is a total of more than 600 million euros.

In order to be able to adhere to the price range, competition is required. The NWL suggests: He is offering vehicle financing through inexpensive municipal loans, and the three best inferior bidders would be reimbursed tender costs of up to 100,000 euros. Passengers should benefit from the competition in the Sauerland: The trains should be handicapped accessible , boarding heights like the Sauerland Express of 1.20 meters should be a thing of the past.

Because of the great success of the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route , the RE 17 (like the RE 57 before it) is to have more space for bicycles. In addition, the NWL requires trains that are 140 km / h fast for the regional express on the Upper Ruhr Valley Railway. This could shorten the travel time to Schwerte, which enables the connection to Münster. A change in the timetable should also ensure a quick connection from Neuenrade and Menden to Dortmund in Fröndenberg. The current offer should be retained. This also applies to ticket sales at DB counters and through DB agencies. However, the machines should be on the trains from the end of 2016 and no longer on the platforms in order to prevent damage from vandalism.

After 7 p.m. all trains should be manned by train attendants, which means that more staff would be deployed on the trains. The RB 43 was already integrated into the new timetable at the December 2015 timetable change and an additional train was offered in the evening hours.

The contract for the overall tender went to DB Regio, and diesel multiple units of the Link type (II or III) from the Polish manufacturer PESA are to be used . On the RB 43, however, this could not be done when the timetable changed in December 2015; used vehicles of the 628 series were used instead . The new vehicles should be used at the end of 2016. Since the new vehicles on all routes were not yet ready by the planned date at the end of 2016, DB Regio planned with different replacement vehicles. The new PESA LINK vehicles are now expected in 2018 and 2019.

Current vehicle use

The existing timetable was largely retained. The DB Regio NRW procured 21 new LINT 41 multiple units for operation on the Sauerland network , which are manufactured by Alstom . This replaced older vehicles such as the VT 628 or VT 643 of the Deutsche Bahn. In addition, vehicles from the 612 and 644 series are in use. Since 2018, the main part of the Sauerland network has been equipped with the originally planned PESA Link series 632 and 633 multiple units and will in future replace all other series after further delivery.

The Volmetal-Bahn connects Dortmund via Hagen with Lüdenscheid and on its way from Dortmund Central Station runs first over sections of the Dortmund – Soest and Dortmund Süd – Düsseldorf-Derendorf lines . From Hagen Hauptbahnhof to Bruges , it runs on the Hagen – Dieringhausen railway . Then it reaches the higher Lüdenscheid via the Bruges – Lüdenscheid railway line .

Offer

Direct change in Lüdenscheid-Bruges from Dortmund (RB 52) towards Cologne (RB 25).

The Volmetal Bahn runs every hour every weekday. There is only a two-hour rhythm in the mornings on Sundays and public holidays.

In December 2017, the section between Bruges and Meinerzhagen was reactivated. The trains of the RB 25 ( Oberbergische Bahn ) were initially tied every two hours between Cologne-Hansaring and Lüdenscheid (2017-2019). Since December 2019, the RB 25 has been running every hour between Cologne and Lüdenscheid. For this, the Lüdenscheid-Bruges train station was rebuilt in order to create a connection to the RB 52 to Dortmund or the RB 25 to Cologne at a platform.

planning

On Saturdays and Sundays, the Volmetalbahn is to run from Lüdenscheid to Hagen an hour earlier. In addition, the Märkische Kreis is aiming for a 30-minute cycle from Lüdenscheid via Hagen to Dortmund in the future, as Lüdenscheid train station is the stop with the most demand.

Offer

The Hönnetal-Bahn runs every hour of the week. There is only a two-hour service between Menden and Neuenrade on Sundays.

Since December 2016, the service has been divided again into the Unna – Menden and Fröndenberg – Neuenrade sections. This means that Menden has an expanded range of train schedules in the direction of Fröndenberg and Hagen / Dortmund.

In addition, the timetable for both sections will be rotated by 30 minutes in order to connect the RB 54 between Neuenrade and Fröndenberg to the RE 57 with the main direction Dortmund.

Brilon city

The Dortmund-Sauerland-Express RE 57 connects Dortmund via Fröndenberg with Winterberg (Westf) or Brilon Stadt.

The Dortmund-Sauerland-Express initially follows the Ardeybahn and the Upper Ruhrtalbahn and then alternately the Nuttlar – Frankenberg and the Almetalbahn .

Offer

The Dortmund-Sauerland-Express runs every day of the week to Bestwig and sometimes alternately to Winterberg (Westf) or Brilon Stadt.

At the weekend the timetable is postponed and deviates from the 30-minute cycle on the Upper Ruhr Valley Railway. This means that the single-track route Nuttlar-Winterberg with an intersection in Siedlinghausen is served hourly. There is a two-hour shuttle service between Bestwig and Brilon at the weekend for the connection to RE Dortmund-Winterberg.

Operation of the Bestwig-Brilon section was reduced to a 120-minute cycle in order, among other things, to provide a route for the new Brilon / Bestwig-Korbach-Frankenberg-Marburg connection.

There is now a two-hour travel option on the Dortmund-Frankfurt axis with good connections in Bestwig and Marburg (Lahn).

planning

With the timetable change in December 2016, a uniform 30-minute cycle between Bestwig and Fröndenberg was also established on the weekend by overlapping the two regional express lines RE 17 and RE 57, which operate every hour. For this purpose, the Bigge stop was expanded again to become a crossing station . This enables an hourly service between Bestwig and Winterberg with a train crossing in Bigge, even on weekdays.

After the reactivation of the Korbach-Frankenberg railway line, the timetable was changed in September 2015 in the Brilon / Brilon Wald / Bestwig area. Thus, the Kurhessenbahn will temporarily get a connection to the RE 57 to Dortmund with its line R 42 Brilon / Bestwig-Marburg. In order to improve the now partially unfavorable connection situation and track occupancy in Brilon Wald, the Kurhessenbahn is planning a further crossing possibility in Viermünden. Optimization of the timetable around Brilon is in prospect.
