history

The shores of Lake Zurich by Stäfa have been settled since the Neolithic Age, as evidenced by traces of a settlement found in Ürikon in 1937. In 1874 a girl's grave with various grave goods was found in the Oberredlikon district, dating back to around 400 BC. Was dated. In 1794/95 the community gave its name to a dispute about the political and economic disadvantage of the Zurich countryside compared to the city. (→  Stäfner Handel ) In 1837 the upper part of the Stäfner church tower was rebuilt by the architect Ferdinand Stadler .

At the beginning of 1952, Robert Barth , founder of the “Milkin-Institut Robert R. Barth” company, began producing the successful Swiss drink Rivella in a former wine shop in Stäfa , which today ranks second behind Coca-Cola as the national drink in Switzerland .

Viticulture

Vineyard Sternenhalde

Stäfa is the largest wine-growing community in the canton of Zurich and can look back on a long wine-growing tradition, as the location on the sunny Gold Coast , Lake Zurich as a heat store and the frequent foehn locations provide ideal conditions. (See also the article on viticulture on Lake Zurich .)

In 1969 the Kirchbühl, Lattenberg and Sternenhalde vineyards as well as Risi Ürikon were preserved from the overbuilding by the community assembly and placed under protection. Since then, the Stäfa-Ürikon Vineyard Trail has provided information about vines and work in the vineyard.

Established businesses

Sonova Holding AG , which specializes in hearing systems, is based in Stäfa . The sensor manufacturer Sensirion is also based in Stäfa.

Rail transport

The right bank of the Zürichseebahn (Zürich – Meilen – Rapperswil) is considered to be the forerunner of the Zürich S-Bahn . In the 1960s, it received RABDe 12/12 multiple units ( “Mirage” ) and the so-called rigid timetable (now a regular timetable ), financed by the Canton of Zurich . As a forerunner of the S-Bahn, the half-hourly service and self-control were tested on the line from 1968 onwards , and around 25 years later it was expanded to include regional services throughout Switzerland.

There are two train stations in the community: Stäfa in the lower Haslenbach and Uerikon . The latter was the starting point of the Uerikon-Bauma Railway from 1901 to 1947 .

The following line of the Zurich S-Bahn runs from the Stäfa and Uerikon stations :

Attractions

Stadlervilla

Sights in Stäfa are the Gasthaus Alte Krone, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed during the visit of his friend Heinrich Meyer in 1797 - today a plaque commemorates it - and the so-called Goethebänkli, from where you have a great view of Lake Zurich , the island of Ufenau and the Etzel and enjoy the Alps .

The villa of Ferdinand Stadler , completed in 1850 , is architecturally interesting .

The stained glass windows designed by the artist Dan Rubinstein (* 1940 in Netanya ) in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Verena , which retell the scenes from the first two books of the Old Testament in bright colors (cycle of 13 windows with the motto « Mercy and Love - Law and Justice »).

The historic patriot monument by August Bösch was inaugurated in 1898.

In Ürikon there is the so-called Ritterhaus Ürikon with a chapel on the lake shore .

The Villa Sunneschy , built in 1906 in the Art Nouveau style, is located in the Kehlhof district, right on the lake . It was extensively restored in 2001. The return to the exposed original substance brought rooms that fascinate with their colors. The villa with its large meadow is now owned by the municipality and is used by the public.

Local museum

The local museum of the color gives an insight into life around 1600.
