Watertown is a city near Boston in the state of Massachusetts in the United States .
geography
Watertown is bounded to the north by Belmont and to the south by Newton and Brighton , the boundary being essentially defined by the Charles River . To the east lies the city of Cambridge , the border of which is almost completely defined by the well-known Mount Auburn Cemetery , which in turn is in the area of Watertown, but is very often mistakenly assigned to Cambridge. Waltham is to the west , but there is no clear geographical limit.
history
On April 18, 2013, Watertown hit the headlines around the world after two suspects in the Boston Marathon attack, heavily armed with firearms and explosives, engaged in a police shootout here, killing the older of the two and injuring his younger brother escaped . The city was cordoned off for hours as the police combed the whole area in search of this young man who was found the following evening.

Armenian population
Watertown is a major center of the Armenian diaspora, and in 2007 it was home to the third largest Armenian community in the United States with 7,000 members. Only the California cities of Glendale and Fresno have larger Armenian communities. Watertown also publishes a number of daily newspapers in English and Armenian , including the Armenian Mirror-Spectator and the Armenian Weekly and Armenian Review .

Since land prices are rising steadily in the metropolitan area around Boston, Watertown has developed as an attractive and inexpensive alternative to rather expensive cities such as Cambridge , Brookline , Belmont and especially Boston . Watertown is conveniently located on the major arteries of Soldiers Field Road and Massachusetts Turnpike , providing quick and direct routes to downtown Boston nightlife . At the NBTA station in Watertown Square there are many connection options to travel to the surrounding cities by omnibus or trolleybus . The city has been served by line 71 of the Cambridge trolleybus since 1958 .
