history
Until the church is planted
Altenmünster came to the Ellwangen Monastery in the 9th century , and then in 1262 to the Oberschönenfeld Monastery of the Augsburg bishopric . Zusamzell belonged to the cathedral monastery of Augsburg . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria.
Administrative history
In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the municipality of Altenmünster came into being with the municipal edict of 1818 . From 1862 to 1929 Altenmünster belonged to the district office of Zusmarshausen and from 1929 to the district office of Wertingen , which from 1939 was called the district of Wertingen .
Incorporations
The community of Hennhofen was incorporated on July 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reform. On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipalities of Baiershofen , Eppishofen , Hegnenbach (excluding the Rischgau part of the municipality), Neumünster , Unterschöneberg and Zusamzell with incorporation agreements voluntarily added to the unified municipality of Altenmünster.

Mayor has been Florian Mair (Independent Voters) since May 1, 2020, who was elected on March 15, 2020 from a competitor with 80.1% of the vote. Its predecessors were:
- Bernhard Walter (SPD / Independent Voters) from 2002 to 2020 and
- Günter Würmseher (CSU / Independent Citizens) until 2002.

Attractions
The parish and pilgrimage church of St. Michael in the Violau district is one of the most important, artistically very significant buildings in the Augsburg area.
In Violau there is also the Bruder-Klaus-Heim (school camp of the Diocese of Augsburg) with an observatory.

Economy including agriculture and forestry
In 1998 there were no employees at the place of work in agriculture and forestry, 408 in manufacturing and no employees in trade and transport. In other economic areas, 96 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 1422 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There were two in manufacturing (as well as mining and quarrying of stones and earth) and eleven in the construction industry. In addition, in 1999 there were 75 farms with an agriculturally used area of 1242 ha. Of this, 617 ha were arable land and 625 ha were permanent green areas.
The company Wiedemann & Reichhardt Maschinen- und Fahrzeugbau GmbH is the largest local company with around 60 employees. It manufactures environmental products and specializes in sewer cleaning using water recycling . In 1977, the managing director Wiedemann developed the world's first sewer cleaning vehicle with water recycling.

In 2012, the primary school was awarded the isi Prize for innovative medial forms of teaching by the Bavarian Education Pact Foundation.
In addition, she was appointed to the reference school for media education project by the Bavarian Ministry of Culture in 2012 .
With effect from October 1, 2014 (awarding of certificates), the elementary school has the title Reference School for Media Education .
With effect from November 28, 2014 (certificate award), the elementary school became a founding member of the i. s. I. network of the Bavarian Education Pact Foundation .
2017: Appointment to the workshop of the Forum Education Digitization . In the workshop, 38 schools from all over Germany develop concepts and strategies for the effective digitization of teaching types. The Bavarian primary school sector is represented by GS Altenmünster with the media module-supported forms of teaching that have been successful for years.
Others
Brewery and inns
The Hämmerle brewery was located in the core town of Altenmünster. It was demolished in April 2005. Only the inn is preserved. The Altenmünster group of companies emerged from the merger of the Hämmerle brewery with the Sailer brewery of Gerd H. Borges in Leuterschach , which was taken over by the Allgäuer Brauhaus in 2002 (part of the Radeberger group since 2003 ). The Mainz share brewery ( Binding group, since 2002 Radeberger group of Dr. August Oetker ) took over the Sailerbräu held by Franz Sailer trademark rights to the brand for Altenmünster Brauer Bier . The company Kronenbräu Brauhaus zu Altenmünster, which belongs to the Altenmünster group of companies, was not also sold.
The craft beers, dark and wheat beers are internationally famous.
Maria Ward House
The Maria Ward House in Altenmünster was founded in 1982. The founders were all Maria Ward sisters who tried to translate the Mary Ward mission into the present. Her 30 years of commitment was initially aimed at young people and later also adults who had to struggle with difficult living conditions.
The Maria Ward House provided a home, spiritual and therapeutic support and relaxation. It became a place of creativity and prepared the ground for personal development and further education. The free seminar house now offers space for groups, the guest house also stays and overnight stays for individuals and families.
Retirement home Haus Zusamaue
In spring 2013, the Zusamaue nursing home was opened with 56 places in four residential groups. Each residential group has its own dining and common room. The facility is based on a BeneVit house community concept.
