What I've Done is a song by the American music group Linkin Park . It is the first single from Linkin Park's third studio album, Minutes to Midnight . With over 3,500,000 units sold, What I've Done is Linkin Park's most successful single in the United States. The demo recording of the song, Bang Three , was released on November 16 on the fan club album Underground 11 . In addition, the song appeared on the soundtrack for the film Transformers (2007), in which a version can be heard shortly before the end credits, which leads directly into the chorus after the extended intro.

In an interview with MTV , singer Chester Bennington said:
"Joe [Hahn] came up to Mike [Shinoda] and me and asked us to take the whole idea of minutes to midnight and apply that to how the band has changed. So, in a way, it's us saying goodbye to how we used to be… The lyrics in the first verse are 'In this farewell, there's no blood, there's no alibi', and right away, you'll notice that the band sounds different: The drums are much more raw, the guitars are more raw and the vocals aren't tripled. It's just us out there ... and that's how Rick Rubin wanted it. "
“Joe came to Mike and me and wanted to relate the whole idea of Minutes to Midnight to the band's change. So it's about how we say goodbye to what we were ... The text of the first stanza is, 'There is no blood, no alibi in this farewell,' and accordingly you will notice that the band sounds different: the drums is rougher, so are the guitars and the vocals are not superimposed three times. It's just us out there ... that's how [producer] Rick Rubin wanted it too . "
Music video
The music video is about the irony of mankind and its negative effects on the earth and the environment . In some shots the desert can be seen. The video deals with environmental pollution , global warming , racism and National Socialism ; In addition, topics such as the Ku Klux Klan , abortion , hunger, terrorism , war , nuclear warfare , deforestation , poverty , drug addiction , obesity and rising gasoline prices are addressed. The video also features short scenes starring key historical figures. The video clip was featured on MTV and won against Evanescence and Lil 'Mama on Battle of the Videos Against Videos .
