Marco Aurélio Brito dos Prazeres or simply Marco (Mehmet) Aurélio (born December 15, 1977, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian- born Turkish footballer who currently plays for Real Betis. His role on the pitch is defensive midfielder.

He played for Flamengo and Olaria in Brazil before moving to Turkey.[2] Then, he joined Turkish side Trabzonspor from Brazilian club Olaria. He spelled three seasons at Bordo-Mavililer. After his contract expired, he signed for Fenerbahçe. During his spell in Turkish clubs, he acquired Turkish citizenship [3] in 2006 and consequently adopted the Turkish name of Mehmet.[4]

Mehmet Aurélio was called up to the Turkish national squad for the first time by the coach Fatih Terim for a friendly match against Luxembourg on August 16, 2006. Thereby, he became the first naturalized player to be capped for Turkey.[5]

On April 26, 2007, after losing a Turkish Cup semi final match against fierce rival Beşiktaş, Aurélio attacked Ricardinho in the parking lot after Ricardinho had allegedly swore at him. Aurélio was subsequently banned for two matches, missing the league match against Beşiktaş.[6][7]

He was promoted as Fenerbahçe's vice-captain after the transfers of team captain Ümit Özat to 1. FC Köln and vice-captains Tuncay Şanlı to Middlesbrough and Rüştü Reçber to Beşiktaş.[8]

He scored his first international goal against Hungary on 12 September2007 on his twelfth appearance for the national team.[9]

Mehmet Aurélio transferred to Real Betis announced by Lig TV[10] & Marca.[11]
