history

Until the church is planted

On August 13, 1704, the Battle of Blindheim, also known as the Second Battle of Höchstädt ( English Battle of Blenheim ) took place in the area, which was of decisive importance for the War of the Spanish Succession . The battle is of great historical importance for Great Britain , which is why, for example, Blenheim Palace , the residence of the family of the victorious John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough , was named after her. In addition, the New Zealand city of Blenheim , the largest city in the Marlborough District with around 24,200 inhabitants , was named after Blindheim. On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Blindheim, a memorial path with an approximately 6.5 m high observation tower was inaugurated on the edge of the former battlefield in August 2004 , which allows an overview of the site of the battle.

The place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark . Around 1700 Veit Ernst III. von Rechberg - Illereichen - Kronburg - Osterberg Blindheim acquired for his two later sons Anton Valentin Alexander and Sigmund Bero Dyonis in order to build up a secondary school here. In 1709 the blind home, heavily devastated by the War of the Spanish Succession, passed to the two heirs. When the last of them died in 1725, his niece Maria Antonie (1715–1791) inherited the Hofmark. She sold them in 1765. At the end of the empire Blindheim was owned by the Lords of Gilardi, the owners of the Jacob Gilardi wire drawing factory in Allersberg . In 1818 the political municipality was established. The patrimonial court that was created instead of the Hofmark was dissolved in 1849.
