The Warszawa – Gdańsk (Warsaw – Gdańsk) railway is a continuous double-track and electrified railway line in the Polish Masovian , Warmian-Masurian and Pomeranian Voivodeships .

The line begins in Warsaw East Railway Station ( Warszawa Wschodnia Osobowa ; km 4.408) and runs from there first northeast, then northwest to Legionowo long-distance train station (km 25.190), where the Legionowo – Tłuszcz railway begins. It continues through the Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki long-distance train stations (km 39.950) and Modlin (km 44.106) to the Nasielsk long-distance train station (km 60.153), where the Nasielsk – Toruń railway begins and where the Nasielsk – Pułtusk narrow-gauge railway began. The route continues via the long-distance train station Ciechanów (km 98.060) - once connected to the narrow-gauge railway Ciechanów – Krasne and the narrow-gauge railway Ciechanów – Grudusk - and Mława (km 130.888), where the narrow-gauge railway Mława – Zamość Mazowiecki began, to Działdowo (Soldau; km 146.226) - the beginning of the Działdowo – Olsztyn railway and the Działdowo – Chojnice railway that is no longer in operation here . The line continues via Turza Wielka (Groß Tauersee, km 157.948) - once the end point of the Bergfriede – Groß Tauersee railway line - and Zajączkowo Lubawskie (Zajonczkowo; km 189.504) - the end point of the disused railway line Nowe Miasto Lubawskie – Zajączkowo as a connection and start of the Lubawskie operated railway line Zajączkowo Lubawskie – Lubawa - to Iława Główna (Deutsch Eylau Hbf; km 208.976) - junction station with the railway line Toruń – Chernyachovsk and terminus of the disused railway line Tama Brodzka – Iława . The next long-distance train station is Susz (Rosenberg (West Prussia); km 232.428), then Prabuty (Riesenburg; km 242.297), the end of the former Miswalde – Riesenburg railway , the disused Jabłonowo Pomorskie – Prabuty railway and the start of the Prabuty – Kwidzyn railway, which is still used for freight . The nearest long-distance train station is Malbork (Marienburg (West Prussia); km 277.888) - the start of the Malbork – Braniewo railway (part of the former Prussian Eastern Railway ) and the end of the Toruń – Malbork railway . At the station Szymankowo (Simon Village, km 286.748), the branched railway Szymankowo-Nowy Dwor Gdanski from; The nearest long-distance train station to Malbork is Tczew (Dirschau; km 296.249) - the beginning of the Tczew – Küstrin-Kietz border line (formerly the Prussian Eastern Railway ) and the end of the Chorzów – Tczew line . The Warsaw – Gdańsk railway line is double-tracked and electrified.

For passenger trains, the maximum speed up to kilometer 10.500 (Warszawa Praga) is 60 to 100 kilometers per hour, up to kilometer 41.800 (Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki) between 140 and 160, up to kilometer 49.300 (Pomiechówek) between 90 and 130, up to kilometer 60.200 ( Nasielsk) at 160, up to kilometer 64.170 (Kątne) at 130, up to kilometer 147.200 (Działdowo) at 150 to 160, up to kilometer 293.820 (Lisewo) at 100 to 160, up to kilometer 298.209 at 60 to 120, to kilometer 324.500 (Gdańsk Orunia ) at 160, on the remaining route 100 to 140. For freight trains, the maximum speed is 60 to 120 kilometers per hour, on the largest parts 100 are possible.

history

As the first section of today's route, the Dirschau - Danzig section was opened at the beginning of August 1852 as part of the Bromberg - Danzig route of the Royal Prussian Eastern Railway . On October 12, 1857, the Dirschau – Marienburg line was opened as a connection between the Bromberg – Danzig line and the Marienburg – Königsberg line that went into operation in 1852/53 . From 1873 to 1875 the Marienburg – Dirschau – Danzig line has been operated on two tracks. On August 1, 1876, the Marienburg-Mlawka Railway opened the Marienburg– Deutsch Eylau line, followed by the continuation to Montowo on October 21, 1876, and on May 15, 1877 the line to Soldau opened, and on September 1, 1877 via the Russian border to Mława . The line from there to Warsaw was also opened by the Vistula Railway in 1877 .

The 1914 summer timetable provided for a pair of express trains from Danzig to Warsaw, and three pairs of passenger trains across the border. After the Weichselland and the Polish Corridor came to Poland, the German-Polish border ran on the Drewenz near Deutsch Eylau since 1920 , while the German- Danzig border ran on the Nogat near Marienburg .

In 1939 a shorter Legionowo – Nasielsk line was opened, which was taken out of service again at the beginning of the war in 1939.

After the Second World War and Poland's annexation of Danzig and large parts of the German eastern territories, the route became completely Polish. Since September 13, 1969 the section Tczew – Danzig, since 1972 the Warsaw – Nasielsk , since September 30, 1983 the Malbork – Tczew, since September 21, 1984 the Nasielsk – Ciechanów , since June 30, 1985 the Iława –Malbork, since September 28, 1985 the Ciechanów – Działdowo, since December 19, 1985 the last section Działdowo – Iława has been electrified.
