geography
The Bischofsmühle is located on the Schwalm , Zur Bischofsmühle in the Watern district , in the middle town of Wegberg in the Heinsberg district . Three mill ponds were in front of the mill and served as water storage for the mill operation. The height of the terrain at the mill building is 72 m above sea level. NN.
history
The Bischofsmühle had numerous names. In 1572 they were called in a judicial letter to pensioners "Evertz-Mühle", in 1681 "Mühle am Feschkens-Weiher", later "Jelisken-Mühle" and also Mettelskes-Mühle. Today's hallmark of the Bischofsmühle is not an upper or lower water wheel, but an ivy-covered chimney that belonged to a steam boiler system that was supposed to supplement the low water power since 1882. In front of the mill were three mill ponds, two of which were filled in in the 1950s. The usable waterfall height was only two feet (about 0.6 m). The Bischofsmühle was operated as an oil and grinding mill and had a pan mill and two grinding mills . But as early as 1908 the steam operation was given up, initially limited to hydropower, until electricity brought relief from energy worries. Nevertheless, it had to cease operations in 1960.
