Course of the road

The Highway 5A in British Columbia , Canada , is 176 km long. It serves as an alternative route between Princeton on the Crowsnest Highway and Kamloops . Before the completion of the Coquihalla Highway in 1986, the route south of Merritt was run as Highway 5 .

Route

The highway branches off in Princeton at the airport from Highway 3 to the north. At Aspen Grove , after 63 km from the east, Highway 97C meets Highway 5A and runs with it for 15 miles to the center of Merritt; Highway 5 crosses on the way, heading south towards Hope . In Merritt, Highway 97C branches off to Cache Creek , the first section of Highway 97 runs together with Highway 8 to Spences Bridge . Highway 5A leaves Merritt again to the northwest, crosses Highway 5 a second time and runs along the southern shore of Nicola Lake . From there the route runs north again and ends after 89 km in Kamloops on Highways 1 , 5 and 97 , which run together there.
