Course of the road

The British Columbia Highway 31 in British Columbia in western Canada is located in the southeast of the province. The highway begins in Balfour and ends in Galena Bay . The highway has a total length of 175 km and is not paved throughout. Between the lakes Kootenay Lake and Trout Lake , the highway consists only of a gravel road .

Route

The highway begins in Balfour at the ferry terminal, where Highway 3A crosses Kootenay Lake. The highway runs along the west bank of the lake or the valley of the Kootenay River to Marblehead . In Kaslo, Highway 31A branches off to the west , which leads to Slocan Lake and then on to New Denver . From Marblehead, the highway follows the Lardeau River in a north-westerly direction. It touches the Goat Range Provincial Park on its northeastern border and runs on the northeast shore of Trout Lake. The highway eventually reaches Galena Bay on the east bank of Upper Arrow Lake . Highway 31 ends on Highway 23 .
