The Castle Mountain is a hilltop castle above the town of La Neuveville on Lake Biel in canton Bern .

history

It was built from 1283 to 1288 by the Prince-Bishop of Basel as a fortress against the Counts of Neuchâtel . The castle, which was heavily modified towards the end of the 15th century, has not been inhabited since 1556. It was restored and made habitable in 1885. Since 1933, after a renovation, it has been owned by the city of La Neuveville and the canton of Bern, which it has rented out to private individuals as a residence.
