Castle Road
The Castle Road is one of Germany's holiday routes .
history
Founded in 1954 as a working group for the route from Mannheim via Heilbronn to Nuremberg , it was converted into an association in 2000, whose members are locations along the route.
In 1994 the opening of the border to the east made it possible to extend the Castle Road to Prague. The collaboration was discontinued at the end of 2017. Since January 1, 2018, the Burgenstrasse has led from Mannheim to Bayreuth and has a total length of around 770 kilometers.
Route
The Burgenstrasse begins at the baroque palace in Mannheim. It leads via Schwetzingen to Heidelberg and from there through the Neckar Valley , the Hohenloher Land , the Frankenhöhe , the Franconian Switzerland , the Haßberge , the Heldburger Land and the Franconian Forest to Bayreuth.
Bike path
In addition to the car route, there is also a long-distance cycle path, the “Castle Road Cycle Path”. This runs mainly on secondary roads and partly uses existing regional bike paths. There are some major climbs (e.g. in the Kocher and Jagst area and in Franconian Switzerland) - for these reasons, the entire length of the Castle Road is not family-friendly and on some sections is not necessarily recommended for inexperienced cyclists.
