The castle ruin Breitenegg is the ruin of a spur castle on a mountain peak protruding east into the Laabertal in the Breitenbrunn district of Breitenegg , district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .

The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1229 and was also built by the lords of Breitenbrunn around this year. From about 1247 to 1289 it was owned by Werner V von Laaber, who was mentioned in a document in 1275. After several changes of ownership, the castle was sold to the brothers Martin and Ludwig von Wildenstein in 1473 before gradually falling into disrepair after 1624.

The former castle complex with Romanesque and Gothic walls is separated from the hinterland by a wide ditch . Part of the approximately eight by eight meter, 12 meter high keep and parts of the circular wall built from humpback ashlar and quarry stone are still preserved.
