description
On the western edge of the plateau above the slope leading into the river valley of the White Laber lies in the mixed forest on a natural tongue between two gorges the Burgstall Rothenfels. It occupies an area about 35 m long and 20 m wide and is separated from the backland by a deep and wide ditch . In addition, a cross ditch separates a northern part of the mountain tongue. A wall surrounds the edge of the Burgplatz as a remnant of a surrounding wall , in the south-west corner there is a pit in the deepest part.
history
The castle goes back to the Rothenfels family, who can be traced here from 1227. In 1350 the property came to Albrecht von Wolfstein . In 1360 part of the fortress was sold to Marquard von Loterbecken and this family held their part until the beginning of the 15th century. After changing hands several times, Erasmus Truchseß von Waltersheim owned the fortress from 1488 to 1512. The facility was destroyed in the Landshut War of Succession in 1504 . In 1534 Philipp Truchseß von Waltersheim sold his property to Elector Ludwig and Count Palatine Friedrich . The castle was not rebuilt.
