The Postal Möningerberg is an Outbound medieval Spur castle , the 1400 m south-southwest of Möning is today a district of the Upper Palatinate town of Freystadt in the district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate of Bavaria . The Burgstall is located at the northern end of the Möningerberg .
description
The northern end of the Möningerberg is enclosed by a ring ditch that covers an area of 36 × 65 m. Where it crosses the heights, it runs in a straight line like a section trench without a wall, otherwise the excavation is heaped up to form a wall. In front of the entrance to the pilgrimage chapel Fourteen Helpers , built here in the 19th century on the castle plateau, the moat has been filled in and the wall removed. About 60 m south of the section trench, a 1 m high step extends over two thirds of the ridge to the south. There is a weak hollow in front of her, probably the rest of a ditch.
A Franciscan monastery was founded on the Möningerberg in 1452 at the instigation of the traveling preacher Johannes Capistranus and with the permission of Count Palatine Otto ; the existing complex may have been used for this. The monastery only existed for 100 years, in 1555 it was lifted and destroyed by Ottheinrich in the course of the Reformation . The stones were used from 1681 to build the church of the Franciscan monastery in Freystadt.
history
In the 12th century, the lords of Menege or Meningen are mentioned here , for example the Ministeriale Herolt de Menge in 1142 as a witness of a deed of donation from Heinrich Jasomirgott to the Plankstetten monastery . In the centuries that followed, local nobility named after Möningen were also mentioned here. Ulrich von Sulzbürg sold part of the Möning property to the Seligenporten monastery on January 15, 1286 .
