The Wolfsberg ring wall is a prehistoric to early historical ring wall near the Upper Palatinate town of Dietfurt an der Altmühl in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate of Bavaria . The ring wall is located about 2000 m southeast of Dietfurt on the Wolfsberg .

description

The Wolfsberg rises lengthways from north-northwest to south-southeast as a 1800 m long and 100 m wide Inselberg above the Altmühltal . The slopes are quite steep with the exception of the south side and on the west side they merge into vertical rocks. The mountain plateau rising to the north is surrounded on all sides by a 2500 long ring wall. The enclosed inner area is approximately 1000 m long and 250 m wide. The ring wall always runs along the edge of the slope. The stones for this were dug up on the inside of the wall, where a shallow hollow has been preserved. On the south side, which is not protected from falling rocks, the wall reaches an interior height of up to 2 m. At the northern tip, the wall ends in a high rock. 400 before the northern tip, a transverse wall divides the system into an upper and a lower castle; this wall is 4 m wide at the base and up to 1.3 m high. In the west it meets the outer wall at a right angle at a point that merges into a vertical slope. On the east side it turns just before the edge wall and forms a pincer gate to the upper castle. The ring wall has three more pincer gates, one leads in the middle of the south side to the upper castle, the other two are on the east and west side of the lower castle. The facility is built over with a beech and spruce forest.
