The Burg Lupburg is the ruins of a hilltop castle on a hill in the local situation of the market Lupburg in the Bavarian district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .

history

The castle was probably built in the 12th century by the noble Ludewicus, whose liege was the Prince Burgrave of Regensburg, and was first mentioned in 1129. In 1299 the castle came to the Regensburg Monastery and in 1505 it became the property of Pfalz-Neuburg . From 1803 the castle was privately owned and fell into disrepair. The facility was extensively renovated in the 20th century.

The horseshoe-shaped castle complex with almost completely preserved Bering (12th century) made of limestone blocks in the lower area and quarry stones in the upper area had an upper and lower castle and still shows considerable remains of the buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries surrounding the castle courtyard. In the south of the complex there is a well-preserved residential building, in the west the palace on the lower floor and in the north a large barn and a preserved gate to the lower castle. In the upper, dilapidated area of ​​the former core castle , the stump of a keep made of limestone blocks has been preserved on a rock .
