The canton of Carcassonne-1 is a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Carcassonne in the Aude department in the Occitanie region . He has his bureau centralisateur in the municipality of Carcassonne , of which he includes a sub-area with 15,026 inhabitants (as of 2017). As part of the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons, it was changed in spring 2015, so that apart from Carcassonne no further municipalities belong to the canton.

history
Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Carcassonne-1 still included the seven municipalities of Berriac , Cavanac , Cazilhac , Couffoulens , Leuc , Mas-des-Cours and Palaja . Its territory extended to the east of Carcassonne, so that the canton was also called Carcassonne-Est . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 1107.
