The Cimetière des Batignolles is a cemetery in the northeast of the 17th arrondissement of the French capital Paris . There are 15,000 graves in 32 divisions on the 11 hectare facility . In terms of area, it is the fourth largest Parisian cemetery within the city limits. The grave complex is on the north-western outskirts. Part of the Paris city motorway, Boulevard périphérique , between Porte de Clichy and Porte de Saint-Ouen , runs through the burial site. There are 812 trees (47 tree species) in the cemetery, mainly chestnut , maple , ash and plane . When the cemetery was inaugurated in 1833, it was only 10 ares in size. After the Quartier des Batignolles became part of the urban area of Paris in 1860, the complex took on its current appearance.
