Courlay is located about eight kilometers southwest of Bressuire and is surrounded by the neighboring communities Bressuire in the north and northeast, Chanteloup in the east and southeast, Moncoutant in the south, Saint-Jouin-de-Milly in the southwest and La Forêt-sur-Sèvre in the west.
