German championship 1931/32

The final phase of the twenty-sixth German football championship took place after the " seizure of power " by the Nazis instead. Football was not spared from the revolutionary changes and harmonization. Immediately after the fire in the Reichstag , the Combat Group for Red Sports Unit (“Rotsport”) was forcibly dissolved and its leaders arrested, only a short time later it hit the ATSB . As a result, both associations could not finish their championships.

The German Football Association was also affected by the changes. On April 28, 1933, the post of Reich Commissioner for Gymnastics and Sports was created and filled with SA member Hans von Tschammer und Osten . The previously existing German Reich Committee for Physical Exercise dissolved "voluntarily". With this, the National Socialists had started to bring the entire sport under their control; further steps should follow. In May, the clubs all had to adopt a uniform statute. The main points were the introduction of the Führer principle and the exclusion of Jewish members.

In terms of sport, this championship brought the breakthrough for West German football. So far, the West German clubs had only provided a finalist once, in 1913 . This season there was a purely West German final that was won by Fortuna Düsseldorf . Fortuna, who completed the final without conceding a goal (goal difference: 19: 0), celebrated their first and so far only German championship title. There were clear parallels to the previous year , because this year, too, both final opponents had already faced each other in the regional championship final and there too the team that had lost in the final of the German championship had won the duel.
