Elgin is a city of 110,145 residents in Illinois . It is located 57 km northwest of the city of Chicago , 52 km southwest of the city of Waukegan and 72 km southeast of the city of Rockford in the metropolitan area of ​​Chicago and belongs to Kane and Cook Counties .

history

After a donation of land in 1864, the Elgin National Watch Company opened their first watch factory here in 1866. Up until 1964, the majority of the watches produced in the USA were made here, with a total of around 60 million pieces. The Elgin National Watch Company was one of the first companies to mass-produce watches.

The Elgin Tower Building was completed in 1929. The Art Deco- style building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
