Engelsberg is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Traunstein .
geography
It is the northernmost municipality in the Traunstein district. It consists of 99 villages, which are connected by 92 km of municipal roads.

history
Until the church is planted
Engelsberg was first mentioned in 927/28 as "Engilmuntesperge" in an exchange document from Count Orendil.
The old Bavarian aristocratic family of the Tunz (Tuntz) von Tunzenberg had their seat in the community. They could be traced back to the 14th century as ducal judges and keepers. The Baumburg monastery also had extensive tithe holdings in Engelsberg until secularization in 1803 . Engelsberg belonged to the Burghausen Rent Office and the Trostberg District Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . In 1818, the current municipality was created through the municipal edict in Bavaria .
From 1539 the Salzburg canon Eberhard von Hirnheim officiated as pastor here. In 1547 he became pastor in Thalgau , and in 1552 he was elected Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt .
20th century
The castle, located above the Alztal near Offenham, was blown up around 1914 and the material used to fortify the bank for the Alz regulation. The Burgstall is still recognizable today.
Incorporations
On July 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Eiting and Maisenberg (both from the Mühldorf am Inn district ) were incorporated.

Between 1988 and 2018, the municipality grew from 1,923 to 2,550 by 627 inhabitants or 32.6%.

Mayor and City Council
Martin Lackner has been the first mayor since May 2008. He was confirmed in office on March 15, 2020 with 95.82% for a further six years.
The municipal council election on March 15, 2020 resulted in the following distribution of seats:
- Independent citizen list : 8 seats (54.64%)
- Free voter community: 6 seats (45.36%).

Economy including agriculture and forestry
In 2017 there were 760 jobs subject to social security contributions in the municipality. Of the resident population, 1,065 people were in employment that was subject to compulsory insurance. The number of out-commuters was 305 more than that of in-commuters. 32 residents were unemployed. In 2016 there were 72 farms.
The community became known beyond Bavaria for its role as an "energy pioneer" after the residents decided to build a wood-fired heating plant and heat it with wood chips.
