history

Kienberg is mentioned for the first time as "Chyemberch" in the property register Breves Notitiae , which was created by Bishop Arno in Salzburg in 798.

From the 12th to the 14th century the ministerials "von Chiemberg" lived in Kienberg. Your seat, the manor house, was perhaps where the inn "Gasthof zur Post" is today. The Knights of Hertzhaim owned a noble seat in Heretsham (between Kienberg and Emertsham). Knight Cuno, the last of the Hertzhaimer family, died in 1603. The castle then came into the possession of the Counts of Tauffkirchen, later the Counts of Berchem, and was demolished between 1866 and 1880. Today, memorial stones commemorate the Hertzhaimer family in the church in Trostberg, in Bad Aussee (Austria), in the church in Traunkirchen, in the church in Salmanskirchen (Mühldorf district) and on the Fraueninsel in the Chiemsee.

The school system began in Kienberg in 1794. At that time, the sacristan Karl Graefischer gave lessons in writing and reading. A school building of its own was only built in 1865. The current school building was inaugurated in 1952.

In 1904 the first aqueduct was built. Up until this year, each property had its own well. The Marian column, which stands in the center of the village (inaugurated on August 15, 1905), reminds of the establishment of the water supply.

In World War II bombs were dropped on Kienberg, but fell on empty space and nothing destroyed. 51 Kienberger fell at the front.

In 1985, Kienberg celebrated its 1200th anniversary.

The Heimatbuch Kienberg was published in 2006.

coat of arms

The municipality of Kienberg has had a coat of arms with the following blazon since 1967 : In silver on a black three-mountain, a red chess knot, growing above it, a red linden leaf on a curved stem.

The red linden leaf growing out of a mountain of three comes from the coat of arms of the noble family of Kienburg, who lived in Kienburg until the 16th century. The Dreiberg also speaks for the place name base word -berg. The chess knight is taken from the coat of arms of the Lords of Herzheim, which can be traced back to the hamlet of Heretsham from the late Middle Ages to the 17th century.
