↓ 2. Deild

The 1st deild ( German  1st league ), Fyrsta deild , is the second highest division in Faroese men's football . It was founded in 1943 one year after the Meistaradeildin under the name Meðaldeildin (German: Mittelliga ). From 1976 up to and including 2004 it was called 2. deild .

development

With the introduction of the league game operation in the Meistaradeildin in 1947, there were lower class leagues, but no promotion and relegation regulation. This only came into effect from 1976. Thus, with initially seven participants, the top of the table in the second division rose to the top division and the bottom of the table was relegated to the next lower division. In 1979 the league was expanded to eight teams, in 1988 to ten. Between 1987 and 1994, the second in the table rose to the first division and from 1988 the second to last in the third division; from 1995 to 2005, the second in the second division played two relegation matches against the bottom of the first division and the ninth of the second division two Relegation games against the table runner-up in the third division.

Current mode

In the 1st Deild , each team plays each other three times on 27 match days. The five teams with the highest points from the previous season, including the two relegated teams from the top division, play 14 home games, the other teams 13. The two teams with the highest points at the end of the season move up to the Effodeildin , the last two teams move up to the 2nd Deild from. If there is a tie, a decision will be made based on the goal difference and then on the goals scored. If there is still a tie afterwards and it is a question of promotion or relegation, a playoff will be played in a neutral place.

Promotion and relegation regulation

The second division is the highest division for which second representatives are entitled to play, so further promotion is not possible. The first team of a club, on the other hand, must occupy at least third place in order to be eligible for promotion. Second teams may only move up from the third division if the first team plays first class in the next season. If a team is relegated from the first division and its second representative is active in the second division, the second team is automatically relegated to the third division. If the second representation is on a non-relegation place, the team with the highest points remains on the relegation places in the league.

1Under the British occupation there was a shortage of soccer balls, which is why no championship could be played.
2 Second representations may not be promoted to the 1st division.
3 No other first team in the top three.

KÍ Klaksvík II was with twelve titles the most frequent champions of the second division before B36 Tórshavn II with nine and HB Tórshavn II and NSÍ Runavík with five successes each. In terms of the number of promotions to the first division, which have only been possible since 1976, ÍF Fuglafjørður leads with seven, ahead of TB Tvøroyri with six and B68 Toftir, B71 Sandur and NSÍ Runavík with five each.

Worth mentioning

  • KÍ Klaksvík II played 14 years in a row in the second division from 1991 to 2004. LÍF Leirvík also succeeded in doing this from 1994 to 2007.
  • The tightest championship went to LÍF Leirvík in 1981, who prevailed against MB Miðvágur due to the better goal quotient . In 2011, the second and third placed TB Tvøroyri and AB Argir were equal on points and goals after the last match day. Only the one higher number of goals scored was the decisive factor for promotion.
  • GÍ Gøta succeeded in 1979 as a climber who made the direct march from the third to the first division. LÍF Leirvík and Skála ÍF were able to repeat this feat in 1981 and 2001 respectively.
  • The opposite way went VB Vágur , who finished last in the first and second division in 1981 and 1982. In 2008 Skála ÍF finished last in the first division and in 2009 the penultimate place in the second division and thus also rose within two years from the first to the third division.
