In the 19th century Floirac had almost 1,000 inhabitants at times; At the beginning of the 20th century it was still around 700. The mechanization of agriculture and the resulting loss of jobs in the past caused a significant population decline to the lowest point in the 1990s.
economy
Floirac was and still is largely agricultural, with cattle breeding (cattle, pigs, poultry) also playing an important role. In autumn, truffles , nuts, chestnuts and fruit (apples, figs, etc.) also traditionally play an important role in providing people with food. Since the 1960s, tourism has also contributed to the town's income in the form of renting holiday homes and apartments ( gîtes ).
history
A parish church was mentioned as early as the 10th century; Adhemar von Echelles made it subject to the Abbey of Tulle in his will . In the 13th century, the Vice Count of Turenne handed the place over to one of his followers. In the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) and in the Huguenot Wars (1562-1598), the place suffered devastation.
