Uzech is a French commune with 216 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Lot department in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Gourdon and the Quercy-Bouriane municipality . The inhabitants are called Uzéchais .
geography
The municipality is located in the cultural landscape of the Quercy , about halfway between the cities of Cahors and Gourdon, southwest of the Massif Central . Neighboring communities are Peyrilles in the north, Gigouzac in the east, Laval-de-Cère in the east, Saint-Denis-Catus in the south, Catus in the southwest and Thédirac in the west. The districts of Richard, Laprade, Tounis, Le Banaudi, Roques, Moulès and Monges belong to the municipality of Uzech . A two kilometer long railway line tunnel from Orléans to Montauban runs through the municipality of Uzech .
history
The municipality was founded in 1793 under the name Uzeils de l'Oules . Via the spelling Uzech-des-Oules it came from 1801 to the name Uzech, which is still valid today . The municipality was created in its current form in 1821 by merging parts of the municipalities of Gigouzac , Peyrilles and Saint-Denis-Catus .
