Anglars-Nozac is a French commune with 365 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Lot department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Gourdon and the Canton of Gourdon .

The first part of the municipality's name is derived from the Latin word angulus ( German  angle, corner ). This could have its origin that the first houses were built with triangular plots. In Occitan the name refers to a field at the corner of two crossing paths. The second part of the name is derived from the earlier name Nautiacum ( Villa des Nautius).

The inhabitants are called Nosacois and Nosacoises .

history

In 1806 the municipality of Rouffilhac was incorporated and released into independence again in 1875. The center of the parish was moved from Nozac to Anglars in 1903 and the parish changed its name from Nozac to Anglars-Nozac.

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 1,290 by the middle of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to around 220 residents by the 1970s, with short recovery phases and mainly because of the spin-off of Rouffilhac. This was followed by a phase of moderate growth that has continued to this day.

Attractions

Parish Church of Saint-Pantaléon

In 1309, Bishop Raymond de Pauchel united the parish of Notre-Dame of Nozac with the College of Le Vigan. The apse and part of the nave can date from the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. A first side chapel was added to the north in the 14th century. The southern side chapel was built no earlier than the second half of the 15th century. The sacristy was added to the apse and the north side chapel in the 18th or early 19th century. The bell tower in the west resulted from an extensive restoration at the beginning of the 20th century. At the same time the nave was partially rebuilt. Renovations inside the church in the first decade of the 20th century exposed the masonry, among other things.

The church is typical of the late Romanesque style . The original masonry of the apse and a part of the northern wall of the nave are with stone from limestone built carefully. The apse with a straight yoke and a semicircular choir with a vaulted ceiling extends to the height of the cornice . This rests on consoles that used to be visibly sculpted. It was raised with a polygonal part above the apse. The double arch and the triumphal arch with double vault, which separate the nave from the choir, are pointed arch-shaped . In addition, remains of pilasters can be seen from the original construction stage. The two chapels were created during different construction work and differ in their size and masonry. In the northern, older, reused stone is mixed with other building material. The north wall is reinforced on the outside by two buttresses , between which there is a now bricked-up, pointed arched entrance. The keystone of the ribbed vault is decorated with a quatrefoil on which a coat of arms, a cross, the sun and the moon can be seen. The fighter in the northwest corner is decorated with a bearded head. The masonry of the south side chapel is evenly built from reused stone. It is also equipped with a ribbed vault.

Nozac Manor

The Nozac family was first mentioned in the scriptures in the 13th century. One of its members, Guibert de Nozac, became a Cathar . The estate was owned by the Vassal family, descendants of knights , for several centuries . In 1468 Pierre de Vassal lived in the manor house, of which the old walls and a stair tower with a Gothic entrance can still be seen today. The rest of the original components have been lost in rework. On the south side of the residential wing, the longitudinal post of a cross- frame window built into the masonry can be seen. The mansion is privately owned and is not open to the public.
