Fort Boyard is an adventure - game show , by the Frenchman Jacques Antoine was developed and Jean-Pierre Mitrecey. The television show was first broadcast in July 1990 under the title Les Clés de Fort Boyard ( French for The Keys of Fort Boyard ) in France . The program was then partly conceptually slightly changed in many countries around the world, including the Swedish edition Fångarna på fortet ( Swedish for prisoners of the fort ). Fort Boyard achieved a market share of 54.3 percent among viewers aged 15 to 44 years there. The German version Fort Boyard was first broadcast in December 1990, the Swiss version first broadcast in 1995.

The French fortress of the same name, Fort Boyard, serves as the backdrop . So far, the show has been marketed in more than 33 countries and more than 1,700 individual programs have been produced since then. The Fort Boyard broadcast format is now considered to be the most successful French television export worldwide.

    Trivia

    • In 2009, US actress Eva Longoria took part in the French version of the show and earned 22,340 euros with her team.
    • The tile field in the courtyard of the fortress contains various letters in the French original, which are required for the final game. However, these letters are not stationary, so they were removed for the Kabel eins broadcast, while they were also used in the previous German seasons. In the German (kabel eins) and Swedish version of the program, the words “Fort Boyard” are shown.
    • At the rear of the fortress there is a subsequently attached supply platform. Due to the camera work and the editing, she cannot be seen in the television broadcast. However , it can be clearly seen on Google Earth .
    • With the exception of the first season on Sat.1, the German edition is the only one in the world in which only prominent candidates participate in the regular editions, which has been criticized many times in the past.
    • The third German season (second production season from ProSieben) was only broadcast one year after its completion.
    • The international theme music of the show was only used on German television with the season broadcast on Sat.1 in 2018. Previously, it was only heard in abbreviated form in the credits at the end of the Kabel eins issues.
    • Only the season of the show broadcast on Sat.1 in 2018 uses the international logo of the game show. All previous German seasons used a specially designed logo.
    • The French "original" version of the game show lasts almost 90 minutes net, whereby the structural and dramaturgical possibilities of the system are used to the full. "Shortened" versions (as in the first season on Sat.1, with a net 40 minutes) force a standardization and thus a certain predictability of the course of the game.
    • In addition to the permanently installed - and regularly modified - games, the system has permanently installed television technology with up to 50 cameras. For the games there is a small “zoo” with tigers, spiders, rats, etc. In bad weather (by the end of the season at the latest), the television technology in the outdoor area must be dismantled.
    • Despite the success and good ratings , only a few seasons were produced for the German audience because the production costs are comparatively high. As early as 1990 an episode cost around 500,000 DM (approx. 256,000 euros). In addition, the German production had to deal with various difficulties on location. Due to the tidal range , it was only possible to shoot a few hours a day on site, otherwise the port in Rochefort could not be reached due to the waves ; in this case there are emergency quarters for torsion bars and players. It was also necessary to coordinate the shooting times with the shooting teams of other national editions.
    • The French-language TV station TV5 Monde , which is also free to air in Germany, broadcasts the previous year's season of the Fort Boyard variant of France 2 in the summer months . The program will be subtitled, including a. also in the German language.
    • French footballer Adil Rami took part in the broadcast in August 2019, although he was officially reported injured at his club Olympique Marseille . Subsequently, his contract was terminated by the club.
