Open water European championships

The open water European Championships are of the Ligue Européenne de Natation discharged (LEN) European championships in open water swimming . There are individual competitions for women and men over distances of 5, 10 and 25 kilometers as well as a team competition over 5 kilometers. The official name of the European Open Water Championships is European Open Water Championships .

The European Open Water Championships were held for the first time in 1989 in Stari Grad , Croatia . In 1995 in Vienna they were held for the first time as part of the European Swimming Championships. They were part of this event up to and including 2006 and 2010. In 2008 the first championships were held again, although the same year the European Swimming Championships were held in Eindhoven. In 2011, the long existing two-year rhythm will be deviated for for the first time and separate title fights will be held in Eilat , Israel .

From 1989 to 2000 there were only competitions over 5 and 25 kilometers for women and men. The competition over 10 kilometers was added in 2002 and the team competition was part of the program for the first time in 2008.
