background

The album title was only published a few weeks before it was released. Previously, numerous titles such as "White Wut", "Bulletproof Youngster" and "The White Album" were circulated by Fler. His ultimate choice fell on “foreign in their own country”. This was justified by Fler as follows: " " Foreign in your own country "ultimately worked out best, especially in coordination with the first single" Deutscha Bad Boy ". This German thing is just my thing. I also consciously chose this because I neglected it on the last album. “The title is based on the sound carrier“ Fremd im Eigen Land ” , released in 1992 by the hip-hop group Advanced Chemistry .

reception

controversy

As with Neger Neger , an album by his label colleague B-Tight , the Brothers Keepers association criticized the album's marketing. Fler was accused of serving groups of buyers on the right-wing fringe instead of sparking a discourse on the topic.

"If he had already made the topic his own, Fler would have the potential, due to his environment, to steer the discussion in a direction in which the right corner of Germany does not necessarily feel addressed and confirmed."

- Comment from the association

The former Advanced Chemistry rapper Torch sees the naming as an affront to his life's work. He accuses Fler of disrespect and decency.

The editors of the Laut.de website rated foreigners in their own country with three out of a possible five evaluation points. The author Dani Fromm attested that the rapper had a strong "rhyme and flow" increase. Furthermore, the instrumentation of the piece Why are you like this? and the idea for Fler vs. Frank White highlighted as successful. Fromm sees the deliberately generated controversy in the songs Ich bin Deutscha and Deutscha Bad Boy , in which Fler alludes to aspects of Aryanism, negatively.

“Otherwise, Fler erects the familiar dark facades of riot behavior and violence on impeccable to magnificently dark beats by Djorkaeff, Desue and Shuko. This is garnished with willing sluts, fat sledges and more or less uninteresting feature guests, of which astonishingly a completely crazy mass of all things in "Clubbanger" leaves the only lasting impression.
