European Women's Football Championship 2017 / Belgium
This article covers the Belgian national team at the 2017 European Women's Football Championship in the Netherlands . Belgium was able to qualify for a final round for the first time, but was eliminated as third in the group with equal goal difference and was able to leave former European champions Norway behind.
qualification
Belgium was drawn for the qualification in group 7 and met England and for the first time Serbia , Bosnia-Herzegovina and Estonia . As fourth-best runners-up in the group, Belgium qualified for the finals for the first time. The best Belgian goal scorers in the qualification were Janice Cayman and Tessa Wullaert with 4 goals each.

Squad
On May 31st, a provisional squad of 28 players was named, who moved into a training camp from June 6th, although some players only started on June 7th (marked with "*") or 11th June (marked with "**") have joined. The EM squad was named on June 25th. Jassina Blom , Charlotte Tison , Sofie Van Houtven , Jody Vangheluwe , Sarah Wijnants and Sara Yuceil were deleted from the provisional squad . There was also the 19-year-old Kassandra Missipo , who was ultimately replaced by Sara Yuceil for disciplinary reasons.

preparation
After the successful qualification, the Belgians played twice on home soil against the Russians, who also qualified for the finals, and turned the previously balanced record into a positive one with two wins. In November they then lost 3-1 to final opponents Denmark . In March 2017, the Belgians took part in further preparation in the Cyprus Cup 2017 , where they competed in the group matches on the European Championship participants Italy (4: 1) and Switzerland (2: 2), as well as North Korea (1: 4) and in Game for 7th place on Austria (1: 1, 3: 2 i. E.) met. On April 11th, the Red Flames won 5-0 against European Championship participants Scotland and on June 13th they played against runner-up world champions Japan and achieved a 1-1 draw, both in Oud-Heverlee . On June 30, they lost 7-0 against Spain in San Pedro del Pinatar . On July 7, they lost 2-0 to neighboring France in Montpellier . The preparation was concluded on July 11th in Denderleeuw with a 2-0 win over Russia. The Van der Valk Hotel Gilze in Tilburg will be based in the Netherlands .

At the draw on November 8, 2016, Belgium was assigned to Pot 4. Belgium meets Denmark in the first game in group A , then Norway and the hosts and neighboring Netherlands . Against Denmark there have been eight defeats in ten games so far and one draw and one victory each, this at the Algarve Cup 2016 . The balance against the other two opponents is also negative: against the Netherlands there were only three wins in four draws and 20 defeats in 27 games and against Norway in eleven games only one win and one draw with nine defeats. The last victory against the neighbors was on August 23, 2000. The only victory against Norway, on the other hand, came at the last encounter so far on May 23, 2015, when the Norwegians were preparing for the 2015 World Cup. Even before the draw, Belgium had agreed to play friendly matches against the Netherlands and Denmark on November 24 and 28, 2016, the first being won 3: 2 and the second being lost 1: 3.
